Hope you all have a great weekend! This week, I finally wrote down the recipe for this tasty pasta sauce. I’ve been making it for a while but usually just throw whatever I have in the pantry that day. If you’re looking to make dinner for a large group or want a lot of leftover sauce, you will love this recipe. I know it’s not authentic Italian sauce (I still day dream of our meals in Rome) but it’s my twist on Italian cuisine.
Hope you enjoy it! I love it over zoodles! So easy and tasty!
Here is the zoodler I bought in a market in the Trastevere neighborhood while in Rome!

Meaty Pasta Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 lb. Italian sausage no sugar added
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 1 28 oz can diced tomatoes
- 1 8 oz tomato sauce
- 1 6 oz tomatoes paste
- 2 Tbsp dried parsley
- 1 Tbsp dried basil
- 1 tsp sea salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Start by browning the beef and Italian sausage over medium heat (about 4 minutes).
- Throw out most of the fat released by the meat.
- Add the garlic, canned tomatoes, tomato sauce, and paste. Mix well.
- Add the spices and mix well (again).
Notes
Let it simmer on low heat covered for up to 2 hours stirring every once in a while.
Make sure the Italian sausage doesn’t have added sugar. You can also use plain ground pork. If you don’t have diced tomatoes, crushed or whole canned work too!
