5 Tips for a Successful Hotel Gym Workout

5 Tips for a Successful Hotel Gym Workout

Hey there strong people!

Over the weekend my husband and I visited Seattle, Washington for our good friend’s wedding. It was just the short break we needed to charge up and get back to work! For me, this means more blog posts and recipes to share with you! We stayed at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel located downtown blocks away from Pike Place Market. Highly recommend it! Now, to my point here: hotel gyms. The cool thing about hotel gyms is that they are free which means no spending 20+ dollars on a day pass. The not-so-cool thing about them, is they usually have very limited equipment and are tiny! Don’t let this discourage you from staying on track with your workouts. The following are 5 tips that help me get a great workout even when the gym situation isn’t 100%.

  1. Research the hotel you will be staying at. This is the first step to figure out if the hotel even has a gym. Most do and I recommend navigating the hotel website (or TripAdvisor) to find pictures. Actually seeing what the gym looks like and what equipment is available will help you write up your workout.
  2. Write the workout. Either on your phone, or on a piece of paper write it out! I can’t tell you guys how many times I walk into a hotel gym not doing half of what I intended to do. Most likely you are on vacation and are dreading working out, writing it will keep you accountable. Another tip-within-a-tip is: write out multiple workouts. For example, if you will be on vacation for 7 days, write out 5 days worth of workouts. A great way to stay accountable!
  3. Make the workouts 20-30 minutes long. The length of your workout depends on your current goals, but in general make them shorter than usual. Again, you are on vacation and you most likely would rather be soaking up the sun on the beach or on exploring the local museums not inside a hotel gym. For this reason, make your workouts short and you will be more likely to get them done.
  4. Do exercises you love. Who doesn’t like to do exercises they love? Again, pat on the back for even working out while on vacation! Create a fun workout that doesn’t feel like a chore. If you love running, jump on the treadmill and knock out some miles! Don’t force yourself to do something you do not love while on a trip.
  5. Get it done. You have a plan written out with exercises you love, now do it!
